Chores. This very word is enough to turn any kids’ face into a frown.
Everyone hates chores. And life is full of them. Constant laundry, cleaning, or my personal (un)favorite dishes.
Running a homestead adds even more chores of course. Now you have plants to tend, animals to feed, and so on. Life can feel like it becomes one big chore.
When you are constantly looking at the negative effort of chores needing done, it’s easy to let the benefits fall to the side. And when you only look at the negatives, it seems easy in the moment to let it go. Just skip that one chore today. There is always tomorrow, right?
Anyone that has been “adulting” for a short while knows that slippery slope.
Yesterday, my kids got to take a slide down the slope. They have been putting off and ignoring the need to clean their room. Eventually, the foot falls and things are lost. To a musical note of whine and complain, with a chorus of cries.
The thing they don’t seem to get is that when you make time for the small chores today, the chores don’t become a huge one later. Leaving more time for fun.
Homestead chores are no different. Do a little weed clearing today and save your garden tomorrow.
Preparedness – no different.
Remember, when you are down in the weeds, it often helps to keep your eye on the big prize. A working homestead. A safe family. And then when you are sitting on the back porch, watching the fire dance, enjoy the peace knowing you don’t have anything piled up on you.
