The Long Game

Last week we talked about balance in your preparedness. And balance is great, but there is another problem with preparedness. I touched a tiny bit, but let’s talk about it a little deeper.

That problem is short term fear.

If you get wrapped up in fear, you might feel like you need everything today. And when you can’t get it because your means aren’t there, the fear only gets worse.

Preparedness is a very long term game. You can’t win it with short term gains. Even if you could buy everything you could possibly think of today, tomorrow you will need something else.

It’s not just purchasing things. Preparedness is a state of mind.

It’s also a family thing. Everyone needs to be on board. Your kids need to be interested in learning the skills needed to be prepared. Your significant other needs to be on board with gathering and storing the items you choose to prepare.

Don’t get trapped in the feeling of needing everything today. Instead, play the long game, knowing that everything won’t be ready today. And it won’t even be ready tomorrow.

Focus on being the tortoise that wins the race.
