About Our Family

You may not end up where you thought you were going, but you will always end up where you were meant to be.

Our Journey

When we decided to create a blog some years ago, it had nothing to do with what it has become. We had intended to move closer to family, get an RV, and travel the country. The blog was going to be the record of our travels.

We started to plan our trips and even bought a truck to pull our rather large RV. But it never worked out. The draw to be close to family and help with GGma (Ashley’s Grandma) never went away. We ended up selling our big truck and resuming life as normal.

One thing led to another, and we started to see that when we stepped back and listened to God’s plan instead of our own, it all worked out for the best. Despite being ‘stuck’ as I like to say it, we have been protected from harm. And in turn, have been given a new direction. One that has a goal of helping others learn to do what we have managed to accomplish.

I look back and think, ‘Where would we have been stuck?’ if we had been traveling during the beginning months of the pandemic. Instead, we have been given the gift of skills and knowledge we would have not otherwise sought out.

And we have been empowered through faith to do things we would have never dreamed of when we first got married.

We have started a family garden, gathered food storage, and learned many valuable skills that we would not have gained any other way. As a family, we have been able to focus on what is most important to us.

In late 2023, we moved with family to North Idaho to start our small family homestead. Each day we learn more as we build and work towards becoming self-sufficient and prepared for anything the future can throw at us. And the experiences and knowledge we share will continue to grow.

Why do we share

As the world continues to spiral out of control, more and more people are looking around and wondering how to protect themselves in the coming days. The fear of societal collapse is very real for many.

Each of us has a great amount of knowledge. We each have something to share. To teach you only need to be one step in front of someone else. That one step lets you share what you learned while taking it to the people who follow behind you. To help you take that next step, we have organized our journey into three pillars of homestead life: Preparedness, Self-Sufficiency, along with Faith & Family.

So, we invite you to follow our journey and learn how to become more self-sufficient, cook healthier, live naturally, and guide your children in the lessons that matter most.

This website is for those who dream every day of growing a homestead but have no idea where to start. Those who want to preserve their food or are afraid of leaping into homeschooling their children. Above all, for those who want to create a resilient family in the face of an uncertain world.

No matter where you are in your life, we hope to inspire you or entertain you with our adventures.

The Pillars

Preparedness

Being ready isn’t about fear; it’s about peace. We share how we’ve built our food storage, secured our home, and prepared our family to remain unshakable, no matter what the world throws our way.

Self-Sufficiency

True freedom comes from knowing you can provide for your own. As we learned how to grow healthy food, cook with what we grew, and build on the land, we created a way to secure our family. And now we share it with you.

Faith & Family

A strong home stands on faith and intentional relationships. By guiding our children, nurturing our marriage, and living with purpose, we create a family that endures challenges and thrives together.

Strength comes from Faith

The pillars are the perfect foundation for protecting your family—but they only hold when grounded in faith. Faith in Heavenly Father and in each other gives your home resilience. Our marriage, tested through many trials, has remained strong because we keep the Lord at the center.

Our family holds together because we love and care for one another, even on the toughest days or when it feels like the kids have tested every limit.

To make your journey a success, use these pillars to strengthen both your family and your relationship with Christ.

Our Family

We are a family of seven & enjoy spending time together and in nature. The kids love playing with Legos, playing games and making all kinds of craft things. Both Ashley & I take turns writing articles for the library, recording new videos, and running the social media spaces.

We believe a resilient homestead requires both leadership and nurturing. We aren’t just teaching preparedness; we are living these same systems to protect what matters most to us.

Managing the household while homeschooling five kids, I lead our family’s readiness. Through the daily chaos of homestead life, I refine our systems to ensure they are simple to follow, hold up, and bring peace to our home.
