Fighting the inflation system

With gas prices quickly climbing the charts, it’s leaving a lot of doubt in our minds.

The last time prices went up around this high was 2024, and before that it was 2022. We are somewhere in between those prices now, and the outlook is not good. And with raising fuel prices comes rising food costs.

I was talking with one of the employees at our local Ace Hardware while he filled my propane tank the other day and we both agreed on this: “Prices will go up. It may go up 40% or whatever. But one thing is certain, a 10% or 20% drop will look great compared to a 40% high. And then the cycle will start over again.”

Giving a 20% drop on from a high makes the politicians look like a hero. We remember how high it was and it dropped. It appears to be a win. And they are banking on the fact that you will forget they only gave you half (or less) of what they stole.

But where do you turn?

When prices first started going up, Ashley suggested we pick up a few extra tanks to help run some of our equipment a little longer between filling up. My brain pushed back. It will be fine. Don’t spend the extra money.

Boy, do I feel sheepish now that costs have gone up another 50 cents.

As I was researching this week’s blog article, the history came and slapped me in the face. The prices we paid as kids in our family are never to be seen again. Too much has changed. And certainly not all for the better.

The best way to avoid the uncertainty of the system is to get off the treadmill. And the only way we can do that is to stop buying and consuming the essential items they hike up first.

Chickens for meat & eggs, fresh ground wheat, handmade tortillas.

True security can start when we find a better way. Garden leaves blowing in the breeze. Bow & arrow instead of ammo. A stock of fabric and patterns to make pants.

We can be certain that our family’s future is in our hands. No one else can save us, least of all the government. So, what are you going to do to get off the treadmill?
