March 1 2025 - Have a vision

Why do this?

I was scrolling around Facebook the other night and ran across an ad asking for people to showcase their homestead, prepping, or unique way of life on a TV show. And it got me thinking, why on earth would a real hardcore prepper, the kind they want for the show, want to show off what they have?

And then I started thinking, why do we even get into this lifestyle? It’s certainly not easy.

If anything, this life is insanely hard with brief moments of relaxing awe at what you created with your hands. Those random moments when you watch the kids playing outside while still getting their farm chores done.

If you want to truly succeed at this lifestyle for any length of time, you need to have a vision. A vision of where you want to end up. And that vision will become your guiding point that keeps you on course when the chips are down.

For most of us, we get into this life to become more self-sufficient. Not for fame and glory. We want our family to have a better life, free from big city life and fast paced disasters. Free from big pharma and daily grinds.

Yes, it is totally possible to make money running a homestead. And you could become famous in your little corner of the world. But it’s not the driving force that will keep you going in the long run.

Decide on a true vision and reason for doing this and stick with it. Don’t chase after the world while trying to live apart from it.
