January 25 2025 - Sickness

Are we throwing caution to the wind?

In 2020, the world ground to a complete halt as everything shut down.

In some areas, like Portland, they stayed shut down for two years to the day. Sure, people functioned, but it was all masks and stay away from each other. Don’t visit loved ones in the hospital. Other areas shut down for two weeks if that.

Sickness is inevitable. And no matter how hard you try, unless you are going to live in a bubble for the rest of your life, you will end up sick.

So, it seems to me that sickness, while annoying, is not something to fear.

But does that mean as a whole we should all throw caution to the wind? I think we need a balance.

We need a balance of how we treat sickness. We need to stop treating simple illnesses like plague. Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that people can’t die from sickness. But every time someone coughs, we don’t need to run away in fear. A mask is not a cure all.

We also need a balance on how we respect others. Sickness by nature can spread. We have a socially moral obligation to take preventive steps to slow down the spread of sickness. Simply keeping your entire family home when anyone is sick can help immensely.

To balance the risks of giving anything we might be carrying to someone who can’t handle it as well. Elderly and the very young don’t have the same healing abilities as someone in their prime. When you have the flu, it might not be the best time to visit your grandma in the care home.

It’s easy to get caught up in the ‘all-me’ world and head off to work instead of staying home just one day.

It’s also easy to listen to outside influences when they say you will get in trouble if you don’t send your kid to school.

One day of rest and proper medicine can make a world of difference. We are big fans of natural healing if you haven’t already noticed. Your God-given body can heal from most things. And waiting 24 hours after you have a fever can keep you from spreading anything residual in your body to another.

When we each work together for the good of our community amazing things can happen.
