No matter how much time we spend in this world, we will always be learning something new.
As homesteaders we are constantly learning new gardening tricks. Or we decide to go out and get a new animal for the fun of it. Skills are constantly growing and evolving.
As a parent, our kids will constantly be throwing curve balls at us. How we raise our first will likely be far different from the last. The skill set changed.
Preparedness is no different. The 72-hour kit you made last fall might have massive holes in what you really needed when that flood hit this spring. We live and learn, growing through time.
Since learning is such a big factor of our everyday lives, are we taking an active interest in what we learn?
Sure, we will have some things that we need to learn by default. Just ask my grumpy teenager if he really wants to ‘learn’ math or language arts. Skills from books like the ones in the above photo that were given to us for homeschooling the kids. Yet as we get older the options expand to the near infinite. We can learn anything our hearts desire.
Today we might want to learn how to make cheese from scratch. Tomorrow it could be looking at the stars and astronomy. Next week? The sky is the limit.
If you place a lifelong focus on learning, you will naturally overcome obstacles.
When something gets in your way, instead of getting stuck behind skills you lack, a lifelong desire to learn will push you to climb over the wall. Your mind will stop at nothing to resolve the problem in the best way you can.
Yes, there will be things you hate doing. I have my own list of most hated chores (that is always evolving). But the enjoyment from my life comes in learning new skills. Trying new things outweighs the hated chore list most days.
The real question is not whether or not you want to learn. The question is what can you learn to spark inspiration and excitement in your soul?
